Person looking out over Iceland horizon
Rick Steves' Perfect 24-Hour Itinerary For A Fun Iceland Vacation
By BRIE SCHMIDT
European travel expert Rick Steves offered the perfect 24-hour itinerary for visitors looking to pack the best of Iceland's sites into a short window.
The itinerary, posted on Steves' website, starts at the airport. Pick up a rental car and drive straight to the Blue Lagoon, Iceland's famous blue-hued geothermal bathing waters.
Then, drive 45 minutes to the city of Reykjavík, where you can grab lunch and sightsee. End your day by driving the Golden Circle loop and stopping for dinner along the way.
In Steves' itinerary, Reykjavík is the ideal spot to book a room. It's a 50-minute drive to Keflavík International Airport, so you won't be rushed for your flight the next morning.
If you have even less time in the country, prioritize just one area or attraction. Blue Lagoon is your best bet, as it's one of the most unforgettable Iceland experiences.
