An hour from Salt Lake City’s airport, Alta draws in skiing purists since snowboarding is forbidden. Snow is a given here, with 902 inches falling during the 2022-2023 season.
Two bases serve Alta, Albion and Wildcat. The former is suited for beginners and adults with kids in tow and the latter will appeal to those more confident on their skis.
An eight-hour drive northwest of Stockholm, Sweden, Åre has more than 40 ski lifts, almost 90 runs, a vertical drop of 2,900 feet, and plenty of cross-country skiing trails.
The ski areas accessible from Åre are the main village, with tall peaks, Björnen, which is geared toward families, and the sister terrains of Tegefjäll and Duved.
Snowmass is a mammoth beast with all types of landscapes. Kids will enjoy the tame terrain and parks of Buttermilk, while Aspen Highlands offers more challenging runs.
Located in the province of Alberta, visitors to this village can ski 3,300 acres of terrain across three mountains in the core of the Canadian Rockies.
Bankso Mountain, Bulgaria, is a huge draw for skiers, most notably for its affordability. There are 18 runs in total, but a good mix of beginner, intermediate, and advanced slopes.
