Travelers In Florida Just Got A New Way To Save On Trips To Europe
If you're in Florida, we've got good news (and even if you're not in Florida, this might be worth making the trip down there) — Icelandair has announced plans to launch nonstop flight service from Miami to Keflavík International Airport in Reykjavík, Iceland. Even better, the carrier will be running three flights a week on this route, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
This move also makes Miami International Airport the only one in the state with nonstop flights to all five Scandinavian countries. The new route will open up on October 26, 2025, but you can already book your tickets to get a head start on trip planning. It's a direct flight, meaning you'll be in Iceland in just under eight hours (check out our tips for surviving a long-haul flight to make the time fly by).
From Miami, passengers on Icelandair now have a convenient option to reach over 30 destinations across Europe. "We are thrilled to be opening a new gateway from Europe to sunny Florida via Iceland and from Miami to Iceland and beyond," said Icelandair President and CEO Bogi Nils Bogason. So, if you're looking for an affordable yet comfortable way to see more of Europe, this new route out of Miami could be the ticket.
How Icelandair's new route can save you money on travel to Europe
Flying from the U.S. to Europe can get pricey, but Icelandair is kicking things off with an introductory fare of $549. That's a solid deal compared to many nonstop fares to Europe, which often eat up a hefty chunk of your travel budget. Whether you're up for a quick Reykjavík getaway or just want a more affordable way to get across the pond, this route offers serious savings.
Plus, unlike many budget airlines, Icelandair doesn't skimp on amenities. Its economy fares include a carry-on (we love airlines that offer free carry-on luggage), in-flight entertainment, and non-alcoholic beverages. Upgrade, and you'll get a free checked bag allowance and some other perks.
Icelandair is also known for its generous stopover program. That means travelers can hang out in Iceland for up to seven days at no extra cost before continuing on to destinations like London, Paris, or Amsterdam. So, if whale watching in Reykjavík or chasing the northern lights is on your bucket list, you can easily add it to your itinerary without breaking the bank. If you only have time to stopover for a day, check out Rick Steves' perfect itinerary for one day in Iceland. However, it's definitely worth it to stick around for a few days since it won't cost you anything extra (in airfare, at least). While you're at it, we recommend visiting the uncrowded and serene Icelandic hot spring Hvammsvík.
