Delta's New Collaboration With Uber Could Change Your Travel Game

Around 120 million Americans are members of Delta's SkyMiles® program. Free to join and offers the chance to earn miles that don't expire, SkyMiles is a no-brainer for anyone who flies Delta. If you're always looking for ways to top up your miles and bag yourself a free flight, you're in luck. From spring 2025, there's a new way to rack up SkyMiles thanks to Delta's new partnership with Uber. It's not just rideshares that can earn you miles, but Uber Eats, too, so those late-night snacks you keep ordering could fuel your next getaway. Score! 

Here's what you need to know. With the partnership, certain Uber services can earn you miles: UberX rides to or from the airport (one mile per dollar), Premium rides (two miles per dollar), and rides with Uber Reserve (three miles per dollar). When ordering Uber Eats, spend $40 or more to earn one mile per dollar. One tub of Ben and Jerry's just isn't going to cut it, so stock up that cart. 

If you want to maximize the Uber/Delta partnership, you'll need to plan strategically. Do a little grocery shopping, take an Uber ride to the airport, and use Uber Reserve when you can plan ahead, and you'll easily start clocking up the miles. One of the most common questions about Delta is how to earn SkyMiles. First, an update: As one rideshare partnership starts, another ends. Delta is terminating its partnership with Lyft and will be working exclusively with Uber. If that's a disappointment, bear in mind that Uber is a much larger company with a greater reach than Lyft, bringing more opportunities to earn miles.

Delta's partnership with Uber is just one of the many ways hopeful passengers can boost their SkyMiles balance. Grabbing a coffee from Starbucks and shopping at a range of stores, from Adidas to Sephora, are others. You can also earn by using a SkyMiles American Express credit card or by booking a vacation package, overnight stay, car rental or even a cruise through Delta. And, of course, you can earn miles by flying with Delta or one of its many global partners, including Air France, KLM, and LATAM.
