TikTok's Game-Changing PTO Hack Maximizes Your Days Off In 2025 As Efficiently As Possible
Remote working has definitely made a major impact on the travel industry. People with jobs allowing for remote work reap the benefits of going wherever their laptop can tune in, and the term "digital nomad" is now everywhere. There are even multiple countries offering digital nomad visas, perfect for anyone looking to embrace a different culture while they work. However, not everyone can be a so-called digital nomad, and many are still at the mercy of paid time off (PTO) when they want to travel.
We hear quite a bit about which parts of the world have a better work-life balance regarding PTO, and the United States is somewhat infamous for offering low amounts of vacation time to its workers. This forces Americans to pay special attention to the timing of their vacations. TikToker @flowerpowerxoxo0 captioned a video stating, "You can travel the world and still have a job! Lol. It isn't revolutionary, but plan strategically around holidays." In the video, the TikToker showed that you could potentially take nine-day vacations while only using four days of PTO thanks to federal holidays in multiple months of the year.
Take your PTO around holidays, even in winter
With federal holidays in 2025, you could take a nine-day vacation from May 24 to June 1 while only using four vacation days, thanks to Memorial Day weekend. Other holidays that could yield this amount of time include President's Day in February and Labor Day in September. Warmer months see more leisure travelers visiting places both within and outside the United States in droves, so be sure not to rule out traveling during the winter. There are plenty of underrated winter getaways across the U.S. and abroad. Plus, you could maximize your PTO even more by taking advantage of Christmas and New Year's, given that some businesses close for two days each for these holidays.
Of course, it isn't all as simple as this sounds. Comments under the TikTok post were quick to point out that the federal holiday PTO schedule in the video would only work for those employed with organizations that abide by such federal holidays, not to mention jobs that operate on the typical Monday through Friday work week. Even still, here's hoping more people will feel inspired to take a second look at their calendars and make some travel happen in 2025.
