In Between Dallas And Houston Is An RV Park Ideal For A Family-Friendly Country Retreat
If you've ever driven the length of I-45, you know that this particular stretch of road can lead to some serious highway hypnosis. It is definitely possible to make it from Ennis to Madisonville without remembering how you got there. Travel Expert Samantha Brown suggests limiting your driving to two to three hours a day, and we are inclined to agree. However, there are so many wonderful sights to see and food to try in Houston (one of the most underrated cities in the south, in our opinion), and Dallas has some incredible museums all within walking distance of each other, not to mention unparalleled shopping. It can all be difficult to resist.
If you need a break between these exciting yet exhausting destinations and are looking for a pleasant stop to break up the road trip, check out the town of Fairfield, about 90 miles south of Dallas. Fairfield has been around since the mid-1800s and offers a lovely historic town square and a slower pace of life. Venture just 4 miles off I-45, and you'll find Cedar Grove RV Park and Campground, a family-friendly gated community with plenty of amenities for road-weary travelers.
Park Amenities
Cedar Grove has both short-term and extended stay options for their guests. Prices start at $40 a night for pull-through or back-in. Weekly prices start at $140 per week. Uncovered RV parking starts at $425 a month with full hookups while covered spots start at $475 a month with full hookups. All prices include up to two adults, four children, two pets, and one or two vehicles depending on size. Water, sewer, and electric are also included.
The owners of Cedar Grove pride themselves on creating a place that fosters both a sense of community and safety. In addition to having a gated entry, there are also multiple security cameras in the common areas. Kids will love the playground, disc golf course, and catch-and-release fishing pond. And once a month, the park holds a family-friendly event such as a potluck, a movie night, or even a hot chocolate night.
Things to See and Do Nearby
Although Cedar Grove might seem remote, there are plenty of activities nearby if you're ready to explore. Did you happen to notice all the billboards along I-45 for Cooper Farms on your way into town? The RV park is just seven minutes from their country store, which is open year-round, seven days a week. They're known for their delicious peaches, but even when it's not peach season, you can find everything from fudge to fried pies to jams and jellies. Travelers on Tripadvisor say that the peach ice cream is not to be missed.
You're also a mere 20 miles from one of the largest lakes in Texas: Richland-Chambers Lake. There are over 43,000 acres of water and multiple boat ramps and marinas available. It's a perfect spot for anglers on the hunt for striped bass, catfish, and crappie. After you've worked up an appetite from a day on the water, head to Sam's Restaurant. Famous for their pies and home-cooking buffet, Sam's has been feeding weary travelers since 1953. As the menu says, "If you leave hungry it's your fault!"
