The Outdoor Capital Of Texas Is A Unique Suburb That Has Been Off Tourists' Radar For Too Long

No doubt you've heard of Austin, Texas: one of the best destinations to visit in Texas. Not only is it the state capital, but it's also well-known for its status as a culture-rich mecca for live music, its offbeat quirkiness, and the incredible food truck scene. Austin's charms are well-documented, but you may not have heard of the up-and-coming suburb just 15 miles south of downtown: Buda.

This charming little town is currently one of the fastest-growing cities in Texas, mostly due to its proximity to Austin, one of the fastest-growing cities in the country. With its lower real estate prices, a location on the I-35 corridor, and a gorgeously slower pace, Buda appeals to those who desire the industry of Austin without the chaos. Since 2005, Buda has been recognized as the "Outdoor Capital of Texas," thanks to its 268 acres of parkland, a remarkably high percentage in a town that covers just over 9 square miles.

Outdoor Fun in Buda

Buda is home to 13 city parks, 3 miles of trails, 10 playgrounds, four full-size soccer fields, four baseball/softball fields, and four basketball courts. Among the acreage of parkland Buda has to offer, Buda Amphitheater & City Park stands out as a hub for community events and activities. Let the kids cool off from the brutal Texas heat on the limestone splash pad after they've worked up a sweat on one of the two playgrounds, or bring a blanket and take in a show with one of the many concerts at the amphitheater.

If you'd like to work in a little history during your visit, check out the Historic Stagecoach Park. The visitor's center at the front of the park is housed in the McElroy-Severn House, which was once the Onion Creek Post Office and Stagecoach House. Visitors on Tripadvisor loved the park for its scenic walking trails and peaceful atmosphere. If you're visiting the park in mid-December, don't miss the annual Buda Trail of Lights held Wednesdays to Saturdays from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
