The Hidden Champagne Bar You Should Pop Into Next Time You're At Walt Disney World
When you picture Disney World, you might have the image of tourists in fanny packs and Mickey Mouse ears sipping diet coke from souvenir mugs. There could be some of that back in the France Pavilion at Epcot as people brave the standby line for the ever-popular Remy's Ratatouille Adventure ride. Yet France — specifically, Les Vins de France — is also the place to be for a champagne flight at Epcot. When you're drafting up your list of things to do at Disney, don't forget to include "Drink Dom Pérignon."
For wine lovers, the champagne offerings at Les Vins de France may be Epcot's best-kept secret. This is a gift shop that's under the radar, or literally off the map, as its name isn't shown on the park's guide map. Unlike the similarly named Les Vins des Chefs de France (an outdoor stand), Les Vins de France doesn't have its own dedicated page on the Disney World website. You can find it in search results there, but there's just a stub for it without any description. In the France Pavilion, you could also walk right past it without even realizing it's a champagne bar.
Whereas Les Vins des Chefs de France is positioned out front by the World Showcase Lagoon, Les Vins de France is tucked away in an unlisted shop that looks like any other storefront. It might not intercept as much foot traffic, but inside, you can buy authentic French champagne and have it shipped or get a flute to go, as you can see in the video below (via Disney Food Blog). There's also red, white, and rosé wine on the menu.
Drink moderately (for immoderate prices) at Les Vins de France
For some, "drinking around the world" is already a time-honored Epcot tradition. It involves grabbing one alcoholic drink or snack per pavilion as you work your way around the World Showcase. Every fall, the park plays into it with the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival. However, even when alternating snacks with drinks, this can lead to some drunk Disney adults, as there are 11 pavilions in World Showcase based on real-life destinations.
A more moderate way of playing the drinking game (without getting dehydrated in the Florida sun) would be to limit yourself to champagne as an aperitif at Les Vins de France. If nothing else, you might want to do so for budgetary reasons, as a five-ounce glass of Dom Pérignon will set you back over $50 here. As of this writing, the deluxe champagne flight — with three two-ounce pours of Dom Pérignon, Ruinart, and Bollinger — costs over $70. A regular champagne flight, with Moët & Chandon Imperial (Brut), Taittinger (Brut), and Veuve Clicquot Demi-Sec, is about half that price.
There are some cheaper five-ounce options at Les Vins de France, like a $15 brut or a $29 rosé, but that still only buys you one drink, so this is definitely a place where you'd go to splurge. To offset the champagne cost, you could take advantage of Epcot's best food deal: a baguette nearby at Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie. Or, if money is no object and you want to play the sophisticate further, you could set your sights next on the first Disney restaurant to win a Michelin star.
