This Picturesque Arkansas Waterfall Is Turquoise Colored With A Serene Swimming Hole

When people think of Arkansas, stunning waterfalls probably aren't the first things that come to mind. However, one of Arkansas' best hidden gems lies deep in the scenic Ozark Mountains — Mirror Lake Waterfall. Not only is this gorgeous gem filled with the most pristine turquoise water you may ever see, but you can also swim in it!

Mirror Lake Waterfall is fed by — you guessed it — Mirror Lake, a chilly Arkansas lake whose temperature stays around 58 degrees Fahrenheit. This lake and waterfall combo is located just a few miles outside of a town named Fifty-Six, with a population of a whopping 159. Because of its more remote location, crowds stay quite minimal, and while the falls receive plenty of guests year-round, the trail around the lake and the overlook never feel too busy or crowded. With plenty of camping and unique lodgings nearby, enjoy this area as a day trip or use this as an opportunity for a multi-day adventure.

A perfect swimming hole sits at the bottom of these must-see falls, offering respite for visitors during the hot summer months. The swimming hole is the product of a dam built by the Civilian Conservation Corps to create a nice relaxation area for one of many nearby campgrounds. The trail around Mirror Lake and Mirror Lake Falls offers lovely views of that dam (which is still standing), the remains of a mill that once operated near the falls, and the Blanchard Springs Caverns, which are located only a 1.6-mile drive away from the Mirror Lake Falls day-use area.

Because of the cold temperatures, with the water rarely rising above 58 degrees Fahrenheit even on Arkansas' hottest days, visitors are urged to never quickly and fully jump in the water to avoid cold water shock. Instead, they should wade slowly, splashing water on their arms and face to properly acclimate before submerging themselves. Safety first, always.

Another added bonus to these gorgeous falls is that all facilities are fully ADA accessible, so no one will miss out on the beauty. From the parking lot, a wooden boardwalk leads all the way to the falls as well as an accessible viewing area at the top of the falls. The hike around the lake is a flat 1.3 miles and wide enough for wheelchairs. Dogs are also allowed on this trail, so the entire family can enjoy a day exploring the area around the falls.

Not only is there a trail around the lake for views from all angles, but Mirror Lake Falls is an excellent spot for fishing and swimming. The cool water temperatures help rainbow trout thrive, thus making the area one of the best trout fishing spots in the state. An accessible ramp leads down to the fishing pier, so no one misses out on the opportunity to catch a trophy trout!
