Transition Daytime Outfits Into Evening Ones With Samantha Brown's Space-Saving Packing Tip

Samantha Brown has been working in the travel industry for decades. Aside from hosting television shows like "Samantha Brown's Places to Love," she promotes all things travel on her personal website and on social media as well. From how to avoid overrated tourist traps and her budget tips to save money on food, Brown wants us all to enjoy travel — and look good while doing so. This is why she often takes time to discuss what clothing items to pack for any given trip.

Over the years, Brown has found that traveling with a carry-on is more convenient than checking a bag at the airport. While this obviously limits the amount of items you can pack, Brown has shared tips on how to still have variety. "The way I change the outfits from day to night is with accessories," she shared in a Facebook reel. "Scarves, belts, [and] jewelry absolutely change an outfit and they don't add any weight or take up any room in you luggage." Keep in mind that adding accessories works best with shirts or pants that can easily match the elements you plan to add. Plain black or neutral pieces are usually the most versatile.

Switch out your clothes when going from day to night too

Most of the time, you'll likely want to wear more casual clothing during the day than at night. Think attire for nice dinners or evening drinks. Later in the reel, Samantha Brown explained that if you want to pack enough variety for day to night occasions, but still only bring small carry-on luggage, you can plan out your outfits well enough to keep them clean longer. "I like to wear my nicer tops at night first. Then they go into my day rotation. During the day, we sweat, they get dirty. So you an wear your tops twice before you have to wash them."

While accessorizing can elevate an outfit, your most expensive accessories should stay at home. Pick-pocketing is a cause for concern in multiple parts of the world. Sleight of hand maneuvers like this could also include unclasping a watch without you even noticing, for example. Perhaps lean into belts and scarves as they are more difficult to swipe and tend to be less valuable than fancy jewelry. Blend in as a tourist to stay safer, which means avoiding making yourself a glitzy diamond-encrusted target.
