Watch: A Skier's Journey, Dubai
"In the unlikeliest of places, there is a community of committed skiers."
In the second episode of filmmaker Jordan Manley's A Skier's Journey, the unlikeliest of places is Dubai—specifically, at slope located in the middle of the desert. Or, more specifically still, in the middle of the (shopping) Mall of Emirates, in the middle of the desert. It's 200 vertical feet, where 365 days of air conditioning keeps the desalinated saltwater snow from melting, giving residents perhaps more access to "powder" than anywhere else in the world. Some have never skied outdoors, others hail from the mountains and hit the mall slopes for their consistency—but all share a love for the desert snow.
