Taking care of a dog or a cat is a $52 billion industry in the U.S. alone. They outnumber people by 28 million, according to media reports. Canines and felines have an increasingly more important role in a traditional American family. Owners spend more than $1,200 a year on veterinary care. Survey results show that 58 percent of travelers often choose an airline and 78 percent choose a hotel based on their pet friendly policies. About 57 percent go on vacation with their pets at least once a month or year. Businesses have adapted.
Le Meurice, Paris, France
Le Meurice has always been very welcoming to animals. During the renovations over a century ago, workers took in a stray greyhound that had been living on-site. Hotel personnel adopted it, and the dog became the mascot and inspiration for the Meurice's emblem today – a pair of Greyhounds. The hotel has proven that it doesn't mind a little mess left by pets. When Salvador Dali, one of the Meurice's most loyal guests checked out, the staff had to repaint the suite because his two tame ocelots had played with the carpets a bit too much. Upon checking it, pets get a complimentary basket. There are also specific menus and grooming services available.

The owners of the Island Lake Lodge understand that pets are part of the family. They have designated the main floor rooms of the Red Eagle lodge and the Cedar lodge for guests with dogs or cats. The super pet-friendly hotel exceeds all expectations with its "MO Pets" program that offers luxurious pet offerings ranging from special menus and pet turndown service, to play dates and grooming services for traveling dogs, according got The Jet Set Pets. They have an indoor dog run in case it rains." There's a specially designed hot spring bathing area for dogs. They also get a cake if it happenens to be their birthday.

Your dog is special and the Topnotch Resort wants to prove that to you. They welcome dogs in select rooms on the first floor. The hotel's pooch-perfect services include dog treats at check-in and at tea time, in-room dog bed and water bowl, pet sitter arrangements by the hour or by the day, and Rover Reiki Massage by specially trained therapists.

"The little goodie bag of treats, folding bowl, mat and scarf are a nice touch too. The hotel is in a great location walking distance to the Naval Academy, shopping, and pet friendly restaurants. A great town and a terrific hotel for you and your pet to feel at home. I will return to both."

The Hughenden is Sydney's premier pet-friendly hotel. The staff really tries hard to make sure your stay is as comfortable as possible for both you and your pooch. They even welcome kangaroos. You have to bring your pet's food and bedding but you won't have to worry about anything else. You can bring them almost anywhere, including having breakfast right next to you. Pet-sitting, dog-walking, even a visit to the Doggy Day Spa are also available. There are special leash-free areas so your pup can run freely.
