Top National Parks For You And Your Dog
Summertime is typically marked by days at the beach, long hikes and road trips and if those are a few of your favorite things, chances are your dog loves them even more. When it comes to outdoor activity, your dog shouldn't be left out. Take a look at some of the best national parks for the pups and then grab a leash and bring them along.
Shenandoah National Park
A mere 75 miles from the epicenter of Washington D.C. the Blue Ridge Mountains are a pups paradise. You and your buddy can hike along almost all of the expensive trail system—with the exception of the trails that include tough climbs and scrambles. More than 400 miles of pet-friendly trails and plenty to see should keep you both happy.
Great Sand Dunes National Park
This southern Colorado park is perfect for your pooch. Making your way around the tallest sand dunes on the continent will be a great adventure for you and your dog and afterward you can cool off in Medano Creek. Dogs are allowed up to the first tall ridge of dunes (between High Dune and Castle Creek Picnic Area) and throughout the adjoining Great Sand Dunes National Preserve.

Acadia National Park
Set on the beautifully rugged coast of Maine, Acadia is one of the most dog-friendly parks around. Dogs are permitted on all trails and roads in the park, with the only exceptions being those requiring climbs. With a few other minor exceptions on public areas (like the Wild Gardens of Acadia) your pup can come along just about anywhere in park grounds.
Grand Canyon National Park
Perhaps the most infamous natural site in the entire country is a great place to take your dog. Four-legged friends are allowed on the South Rim Trail, one of the most famous and easy trails in the park. Just be sure to bring enough water and snacks for you and your dog, as hikes in the heat can get pretty exhausting.
